Let Me Be Clear

about Me

The definition variations I like:

Locavore Those who prefer to eat locally grown/produced food sometimes call themselves "localvores" or locavores.[2]

Gypsy-traveler, nomad, rover, roamer, wanderer.

Gourmet food is of the highest quality and flavor, prepared well and presented in an artful manner.

Gourmet [goor’mā] One who loves good food and wine (noun)

Slow Food

Good, Clean and Fair

Good:

The word good can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. For Slow Food, the idea of good means

enjoying delicious food created with care from healthy plants and animals. The pleasures of good

food can also help to build community and celebrate culture and regional diversity.

Clean:

When we talk about clean food, we are talking about nutritious food that is as good for the planet

as it is for our bodies. It is grown and harvested with methods that have a positive impact on our local ecosystems and promotes biodiversity.

Fair:

We believe that food is a universal right. Food that is fair should be accessible to all, regardless of income, and produced by people who are treated with dignity and justly compensated for their labor.

SOLE food: Sustainable, Organic, Local, Ethical

My Expertise:

I am a complete amateur; I have not had professional culinary training. I was taught the basics of cooking by my mother and the rest of my skills are self taught through trial and error, reading literature, and watching various TV shows. I do not claim to be a gourmet chef in the stuffy stuck-up sense of the word.

I am not a vegetarian; I do not claim to eat solely local food. The idea of taking The Hundred Mile Challenge very much intrigues me although I have not participated in the challenge yet. I think that for me, making steps toward eating local, thus decreasing use of fossil fuels, keeping money in local communities, and enjoying the benefits of foods higher in nutritional value and flavor, are steps in the right direction. My pantry and fridge contain ingredients from around the world, but I strive to keep fresh local foods at the core of our menus.
